Wang Jianjun Life Sentence Follows Bribery Conviction of Former China Securities Regulator

Wang Jianjun life sentence proceedings have ended with the former China Securities Regulatory Commission vice chairman receiving life imprisonment for accepting more than RMB93m (USD13m) in bribes.
State broadcaster CCTV reported that the court found Wang had used his positions between 2005 and 2019 to secure benefits for companies and individuals.
The benefits involved company listings, corporate financing and business contracts, with Wang accepting money and property in return, according to the first-instance judgment.
CCTV said Wang admitted guilt and expressed remorse.
The case forms part of China’s continuing anti-corruption campaign across the financial sector, which has targeted officials and executives in regulatory agencies, banks and investment institutions.
The crackdown has increased scrutiny of officials involved in securities-market supervision, public listings and corporate financing decisions as Beijing seeks to strengthen discipline across its financial system.
