Taiwan Japan Cross-Border ETFs to Debut in September

Taiwan and Japan will roll out their first cross-border exchange-traded funds (ETFs) this month to strengthen financial integration and enhance Taiwan’s role as an asset management hub, the Taiwan Stock Exchange said. Cathay Securities Investment Trust will list the iFree Cathay Taiwan Tech Leaders Index ETF on the Tokyo Stock Exchange on 12 September, while Nomura Asset Management Taiwan will launch the NEXT FUNDS-Nomura TOPIX Feeder ETF in Taipei on 18 September. Nomura will also list a Japan ETF tracking Taiwan’s Innovative Technology 50 index. Taiwan’s ETF market, now the third largest in Asia-Pacific, has grown to NTD6.77tr (USD220bn). The TWSE plans more cross-border listings beyond Japan.
