South Korea’s Financial Services Commission has nominated lawyer Lee Chan-jin, former defence counsel for President Lee Jae Myung, as governor of the Financial Supervisory Service (FSS). The role has been vacant since June when Lee Bok-hyun completed his term. Lee Chan-jin, associated with civic group Minbyun, has represented firms ranging from start-ups to conglomerates and defended the president in a case involving Ssangbangwool Group’s unauthorised remittance to North Korea. Pending presidential approval, he will oversee regulatory priorities including curbing unfair trade practices.
