Singapore Private Bank Account Opening Accelerates as Onboarding Improves

Singapore private bank account opening times are shortening, with nearly half of new accounts opened between June and August completed within one month, according to the Association of Banks in Singapore.
The improvement comes as the Private Banking Industry Group targets a median account-opening time of one month by the end of 2026.
The Monetary Authority of Singapore and the industry group established a working group in 2025 to tackle onboarding delays, which can extend from three to 12 months for complex clients.
Banks have since deployed artificial intelligence and other digital tools, adopted more risk-proportionate approaches to source-of-wealth checks and removed processes considered unnecessary.
Faster onboarding could strengthen Singapore’s competitiveness as an international wealth management centre as private banks compete for global clients.
However, the industry said efficiency improvements would continue to be balanced against risk-management requirements and the need to maintain trust in Singapore’s financial system.
