Singapore family office tax exemptions could be expanded to include digital payment tokens and insurance policies as authorities consider giving single family offices greater flexibility in managing investment portfolios.

Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong said the Monetary Authority of Singapore will update the designated investment list covered by the family-office tax exemption framework, although no implementation timetable or detailed changes have yet been announced.

Speaking at the Global-Asia Family Office Summit, Gan said single family offices had sought greater investment flexibility, including the ability to invest in digital payment tokens and insurance policies.

Assets currently eligible under the framework include stocks, debt securities, funds and trusts, derivatives, foreign exchange, commodities, overseas real estate, cash deposits and private equity.

The review covers exemptions provided under Singapore’s Income Tax Act and could broaden the range of assets that wealthy families can incorporate into tax-efficient investment structures managed through the city-state.
