The Partners Group Asia private credit business has secured a USD1bn mandate from an unnamed Asian institutional investor as sovereign wealth funds and insurers increase allocations to private lending.

The evergreen mandate includes a discretionary allocation and co-investment capital targeting senior and junior direct-lending opportunities across Asia-Pacific.

Partners Group said it has secured more than five Asian institutional mandates over the past year, including an EUR800m (USD932m) allocation from a sovereign wealth fund covering private equity and infrastructure investments.

Asia chairman Kevin Lu said demand for private credit is increasing particularly in Southeast Asia and Japan, where investors are seeking attractive risk-adjusted returns relative to public fixed-income markets.

Partners Group manages more than USD40bn in private credit globally.

The latest mandate reinforces growing institutional interest in Asia-Pacific private lending as banks become more selective and investors seek diversified sources of income.
