HSBC chief executive Georges Elhedery and other senior executives are personally engaging with clients in Hong Kong as the bank seeks to revive its underperforming investment banking operations, according to Bloomberg.

The HSBC investment banking Hong Kong initiative includes direct client outreach, personalised communications and stronger engagement with key corporate relationships across the Greater Bay Area.

Elhedery has reportedly marketed projects directly to clients, sent personalised video messages and instructed teams to contact around 400 strategically important clients.

The effort follows a broad restructuring of HSBC investment banking Hong Kong operations since he became chief executive in 2024.

The bank has also hired more than 10 bankers for its China investment banking business during the past year, reflecting renewed efforts to strengthen deal-making capabilities and client coverage.

The strategy underscores HSBC’s determination to improve investment banking performance while reinforcing relationships with corporate and institutional clients across Greater China.
