Hong Kong overseas expansion

Hong Kong overseas expansion remains a strategic priority for local companies despite weaker business confidence, according to UOB's Business Outlook Study 2026.

The survey found that nearly four in five businesses intend to expand internationally during the next three years as they strengthen resilience and pursue long-term growth opportunities.

Business sentiment declined to 63% in 2025 from 73% a year earlier, reflecting a more challenging economic environment.

Nevertheless, 79% of respondents said they planned overseas expansion, with ASEAN and mainland China identified as the preferred destinations by 33% and 26% of businesses respectively.

Supply chain resilience also remained a major focus, with 86% describing it as strategically important.

Meanwhile, 93% of companies had adopted digital solutions, although only 53% believed these investments had delivered their intended outcomes.

The findings suggest Hong Kong overseas expansion continues to underpin corporate growth strategies despite softer market conditions and ongoing geopolitical uncertainty.
