The push for Hong Kong insurers AI adoption is gaining momentum as seven major players—AIA, AXA, HSBC Life, FWD, Prudential, YF Life, and China Taiping—join the Insurance Authority’s AI Cohort Programme. Each insurer will set up an AI centre in the city to develop innovations and share practices across the sector. The regulator plans to issue new guidance in 2026 and establish an expert group to balance efficiency gains with privacy protections. Currently, only 20% of Hong Kong’s 157 insurers actively deploy AI, though 40% are exploring it. The Hong Kong insurers AI adoption initiative aims to boost claims handling, fraud detection, and risk modelling while positioning the city as an insurance AI hub.
