Hong Kong HNWI travel is becoming a greater lifestyle priority than property ownership as affluent residents increasingly value experiences, personal development and early retirement, according to Standard Chartered.

The bank's Hong Kong Travel Value Report 2026 found that only 24% of respondents ranked purchasing a first or dream home among their major life goals.

By comparison, 48% prioritised immersive travel and 49% selected early retirement.

Among high-net-worth individuals holding at least HKD7.8m (USD994,000) in investible assets, 72% said travel helps build "intangible capital" by broadening perspectives and supporting long-term well-being.

HNWIs expect to spend an average HKD345,000 on travel this year, while two-thirds said their travel expenditure now exceeds everyday lifestyle spending.

The survey covered 1,058 affluent Hong Kong residents aged 30 or above and was conducted in June.
