The Hong Kong accounting qualification pipeline will continue receiving government support as authorities seek to strengthen the supply of professionals serving the city’s financial sector.

Financial Services and the Treasury Bureau Under Secretary Joseph Chan said the government would continue backing the Qualification Programme operated by the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

The programme provides training across accounting, business and finance while developing analytical, problem-solving and leadership skills.

Chan’s comments followed Hong Kong’s third-place global and first-place Asian ranking in the latest Global Financial Centres Index.

The city ranked first worldwide for fintech offerings, financial-sector development and investment management, while remaining second for human capital.

Separately, the Financial Services Development Council plans to introduce a two-year youth internship programme in partnership with the industry.

The initiative will provide 1,000 placements across financial services as Hong Kong seeks to strengthen its future talent pool.
