Chinese banks continue to dominate the global banking industry, occupying seven of the world's top 10 positions by Tier 1 capital in The Banker magazine's 2026 Top 1000 World Banks ranking.

Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, China Construction Bank, Agricultural Bank of China and Bank of China retained the top four positions globally, while Postal Savings Bank of China entered the top 10 for the first time.

JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America and Citi were the only non-Chinese institutions to feature among the world's 10 largest banks.

Overall, Chinese lenders accounted for 22 of the world's top 100 banks, reinforcing the country's growing influence within global finance.

The Banker Editor-in-Chief Silvia Pavoni said future growth will increasingly depend on overseas expansion and the continued internationalisation of the yuan, as Chinese banks seek new revenue opportunities while strengthening their presence in international markets.
