VC dealmaking continues to grow in SE Asia

Venture capital (VC) deal making has continued to grow in H1 of 2022, with Southeast Asia recording USD7.7bn in deal value from 416 deals. In 2021, VC investments in the region soared 1.6 times to hit a record USD20.4bn, twice as much as the rest of Asia, which recorded a 0.8 times growth in aggregate deal value, said data analytics company Preqin. Southeast Asian tech has been on the rise over the past few years, driven by regional giants such as Grab. Following a rebound from pandemic lows, the region’s aggregate deal value in 2021 was 35% higher than the 2019 and 2020 levels combined, and 85% higher than the last peak of USD11bn in 2018.
