UOB Malaysia picks first female CEO

UOB Malaysia has named Ng Wei Wei as its first female CEO effective May 1, 2022. Ng, currently deputy CEO, started her career at UOB Malaysia from 2000 to 2006 and returned in 2019 as managing director and country head of wholesale banking. She assumed her present role as deputy CEO in 2021. Ng succeeds Wong Kim Choong, who will become senior adviser to oversee the acquisition of Citi’s consumer banking assets until his planned retirement. UOB Malaysia said Ng has been instrumental in growing its wholesale banking franchise; advancing the bank’s strategic priorities including its environment, social and governance (ESG), and innovation agenda; as well as supporting its customers to expand regionally by tapping on the bank’s connectivity, expertise, and capabilities.
