Traders urge Thai government to seek Saudi investors

Trade groups in three southern border provinces in Thailand have urged the government to seek investment from Saudi Arabia as a way to stimulate trade. The call was made by chambers of commerce in Narathiwat, Yala, and Pattani during a recent meeting of focus groups in Pattani. The traders suggested that the government propose joint ventures to Saudi Arabia following the recent restoration of diplomatic relations between Thailand and the Gulf nation after 30 years. In the past six years, Thailand has presented products for promotion during the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca, while private-sector parties from the Middle East and Holland have also extended their support for the growing and harvesting of peppers and coffee beans.
