Thailand’s Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin is spearheading a joint-visa programme with Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar and Vietnam to boost tourism and create a seamless travel experience across the six nations. The initiative aims to attract more long-haul, high-spending tourists by simplifying mobility and increasing tourist spending. The programme is part of broader efforts by Srettha to transform Thailand into an aviation and logistics hub and strengthen its economy against challenges such as sluggish exports. The combined tourist arrivals for these countries reached 70 million last year, with Thailand and Malaysia alone generating US$48bn in revenues. The plan includes extending visa validity to 90 days to appeal to travellers, and implementing other visa relaxation and tourism strategies.
