Telco consortium investing USD300m in SE Asia submarine cable system

A consortium composed of China Telecom Global, Globe Telecom, DITO Telecommunity Corporation, Singapore Telecommunications Limited, and Unified National Networks of Brunei has signed agreements to build a submarine cable system in Southeast Asia. The consortium is investing USD300m to boost data capacity in the region and upgrade local capacities. The planned Asia Link Cable (ALC) will be approximately 6,000 kilometres in length, connecting Hong Kong and Singapore as its trunk, with branches into the Philippines, Brunei, and Hainan, China. The ALC is seen to provide additional hyper-capacity within Asia and boost resiliency for international traffic, according to the announcement.
