Swedish private equity firm EQT announced that it has completed its acquisition of Hong Kong-based Baring Private Equity Asia (BPEA) in a reported USD6.7bn deal. The deal brings together one of the world’s largest private markets firms, EQT, with the third largest in Asia, BPEA, to create a global leader in active ownership strategies. The two firms’ Asia PE teams will be combined to create BPEA EQT, while Baring’s real estate business will be integrated into EQT’s. Prior to completion, BPEA held the final close of the Baring Asia Private Equity Fund VIII at USD11.2bn, making it one of the largest private equity funds ever raised in Asia. EQT, in contrast, has investment strategies covering all phases of a business’ development, from start-up to maturity. As of 30 June 2022, EQT had EUR77bn in assets under management.
