Startup Debt Funding Surges as Southeast Asian Firms Seek Capital Efficiency

Southeast Asia startup debt funding nearly doubled to USD6.1bn in 2025 as companies increasingly sought alternatives to equity financing amid challenging fundraising and exit conditions.
According to data platform Tracxn, debt funding increased from USD487.8m in 2023 to USD3.1bn in 2024 before rising further in 2025.
Equity funding moved in the opposite direction, declining from USD8.4bn in 2023 to USD7.9bn in 2024 and USD6.2bn in 2025.
Tracxn co-founder and chief executive Neha Singh said the shift reflected a maturing startup investment market in which capital efficiency had become increasingly important.
Companies are using venture debt and credit facilities to extend operating runways, finance infrastructure expansion and reach higher valuation milestones while limiting equity dilution.
For family offices and private-market investors, the trend highlights the growing role of debt financing in Southeast Asia’s startup ecosystem as companies seek more flexible funding structures.
