South Korea, Japan eye deeper trade, tech ties

Updated: 16 hours ago

South Korean and Japanese business leaders began their annual conference Tuesday in Seoul to explore deeper economic cooperation in advanced industries, supply chains, and trade, Seoul’s industry ministry said. The 57th Korea-Japan Business Conference, attended by around 300 executives, also commemorates the 60th anniversary of diplomatic normalisation between the two countries. Talks will focus on collaboration in artificial intelligence, semiconductors, biotechnology, and renewable energy, alongside carbon neutrality goals. The two sides are also discussing prospects for a bilateral free trade agreement to enhance economic ties and boost people-to-people exchanges. South Korean Trade Minister Cheong In-kyo emphasised the need for joint efforts to strengthen supply chain resilience and expand influence in the Global South.
