Singapore's Lee calls for strengthened ties among Asian countries

Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has called for countries in Asia to strengthen cooperation and interdependence with each other and external partners, in order to build a resilient and interconnected network in the region. Speaking at the annual Boao Forum for Asia, he suggested that a hub-and-spokes model was not sufficient, and that a dense mesh of cooperation was required instead. Lee highlighted the importance of regional groupings such as ASEAN, the East Asia Summit, ASEAN Plus Three, and the ASEAN Regional Forum in bringing major players together and providing platforms for productive dialogue and engagement. He also emphasised the need for a stable and broader relationship between China and its Asian neighbours, based on mutual trust and cooperation, and called for Asia to remain open and nurture ties with other regions of the world.
