Singapore Family Office Onboarding Target Cut to About One Month

Singapore family office onboarding could be shortened to around one month by the end of 2026 as regulators and private banks streamline checks while retaining stronger scrutiny of wealth sources.
The Monetary Authority of Singapore and Private Banking Industry Group initiative follows a review that found onboarding procedures had become excessive after the city-state’s 2023 money laundering scandal.
Current processing can take more than six weeks.
Lawyers said the reform represents risk-proportionate due diligence rather than weaker compliance, with families still expected to provide clear source-of-wealth explanations, ownership information and supporting documentation.
A revised single-family office framework effective June 15 has also replaced individual licensing exemptions with a class exemption.
Family offices must notify MAS, maintain accounts with licensed banks and submit annual returns.
Adviser Saravanan Rathakrishnan said consistent documentation, governance and clearly structured ownership arrangements remain essential.
