Ten major financial institutions in Singapore are partnering with the Institute of Banking and Finance (IBF) to offer around 300 internships and traineeships over the next two years, aiming to enhance job readiness for polytechnic students.
Announced at the Financial Industry Fiesta on 9 July, the initiative aims to widen early access to career pathways and diversify recruitment beyond traditional university graduates. The IBF also signed a new agreement with UOB and three local universities to roll out work-study tracks that combine academic learning with industry experience.
The finance sector currently contributes 13.8% to Singapore’s GDP and employs about 200,000 people. Officials say such programmes are vital for building a future-ready workforce amid global economic uncertainties.
