Southeast Asia has remained bullish on the USD1tr economic opportunities in the green sector by 2030, but the region needs to step up to strengthen the investable market and increase green capital flows. This is according to Dale Hardcastle, partner and director of the Global Sustainability Innovation Center at Bain & Company, in reaction to a new report that only USD15bn has been invested in the region since 2020. Of this USD15bn, Bain & Company and Temasek have found that around 45% was deployed between Q3 2021 and Q1 2022. Corporate firms were the largest investors in the green sector, with USD11bn deployed over 86 deals since 2020 while private equity (PE) and venture capital (VC) firms deployed some USD1bn over 23 deals, largely in startups.
