Private equity activity in Southeast Asia rebounded from the lows of 2020 to record growth in deal count, recording 81% year-on-year growth and leading the Asia-Pacific sector, according to the latest report by Bain & Co. The report showed that Southeast Asia was only behind Japan in deal value growth at 143% year-on-year compared to Japan’s 152%. Singapore drove the growth of exits in 2021, with Grab’s USD4.3bn IPO in November 2021 taking up the bulk of the USD8bn exit value in the region. With the 2021 data, Asia now makes up slightly over a quarter of the global PE market at 25% with USD1.7tr in assets under management.
