Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for efforts to promote enterprise innovation and foster more small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that are specialised and innovative. Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, asked governments to increase support for enterprises and strengthen the protection of property rights, allowing more new SMEs to emerge. Noting that SMEs serve as a significant force for bolstering innovation, expanding employment and improving people's livelihoods, Xi said he hoped that the “little giant” companies will play a more vital role in helping to reinforce the stability of the nation's industrial and supply chains and promoting economic and social development.
