Philippines urged to open further to foreign investors

Asia-based Hinrich Foundation has urged the Philippine government to open its doors further to foreign investors. The move will enable the country to corner more job-generating investments. The call was made as the Philippines, for years, has lagged behind its regional peers in attracting FDI. There is a window of opportunity to open the country further to foreigners, said one economist during an online forum organised by Hinrich. FDI to the Philippines started declining from a peak of USD10.1bn in 2017. The pandemic has even worsened the downtrend.
