Philippine SEC expands AI use to boost investor protection

Updated: Jun 13

The Philippine Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is advancing the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in its operations to enhance fraud detection, risk assessment, and investor protection. SEC Commissioner Javey Paul D. Francisco said the regulator sees AI as key to strengthening market integrity and promoting sustainable investment practices. The SEC also launched “SEC AInnovation,” an AI-powered chatbot using natural language processing to provide multilingual assistance on securities regulations. The tool is designed to increase accessibility and transparency across stakeholder groups. As it scales AI adoption, the SEC emphasised the importance of ethical and responsible innovation, ensuring AI supports inclusive, sustainable, and rights-based financial market development.
