The Yamauchi No. 10 Family Office, which manages assets for Nintendo’s founding family, has acquired an 11% stake in independent film studio K2 Pictures and invested in its film production fund. K2, founded in 2023 by former Toei executives, seeks to modernise Japan’s movie financing model by raising JPY10bn (USD70m) outside the traditional production committee system. The move comes as institutional investment in Japanese cinema remains rare due to regulatory barriers. In a related shift, Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group launched a fund with Kodansha and Credeus to finance a major live-action film, marking a first-time collaboration between a bank and an entertainment company for a single title.
