Malaysia's pension chief named second finance minister

Malaysia's Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has appointed Amir Hamzah Azizan, head of the nation's largest pension fund, as the second finance minister, according to a Bloomberg report. This move addresses concerns over Anwar's multiple roles, with Amir Hamzah sharing the finance portfolio. Currently the CEO of the Employees Provident Fund, Amir Hamzah's appointment follows the government's efforts to reduce the budget deficit and maintain Malaysia’s strong credit score amid global economic shifts. The cabinet reshuffle expands to 31 ministers, consistent with the size of the previous administration. Key appointments include Deputy Prime Minister Fadillah Yusof as energy transition minister, Khaled Nordin overseeing defence, Mohamad Hasan as foreign minister, Johari Ghani handling plantation and commodities, and Dzulkefly Ahmad returning as health minister.
