The Malaysia family office scheme has attracted indicative assets under management of RM20.8bn (USD4.4bn) as of September 2026, exceeding its original RM2bn target by more than tenfold.

Securities Commission Malaysia Executive Director Shahrul Amry Abd Malek said the initiative was attracting domestic wealthy families, Malaysians repatriating overseas wealth and international investors.

Speaking at the Family Office Summit Malaysia, he highlighted growing interest in the single-family office incentive scheme introduced in September 2024.

Malaysia is also seeking to channel private wealth into domestic businesses, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises facing an estimated RM268bn financing gap.

The country's capital market has expanded to RM4.5tr, providing a broader foundation for investment activity.

Authorities are also considering a multi-family office model that would allow wealthy families to access licensed fund managers without establishing individual management companies.

The developments could strengthen Malaysia's position as an emerging Asian family office destination while encouraging greater private capital participation in the domestic economy.
