Malaysia eyes digitalisation to cut dependency on foreign workers

The Malaysian government is looking at digitalisation as a means to reduce the country's dependency on foreign workers. Mahadhir Aziz, CEO of Malaysia Digital Economy Corp (MDEC), said the government aims to build up its people first instead of depending on foreign labour. Malaysia Digital was launched to encourage and attract companies, talent, and investment while enabling the country's businesses and people to play a major role in the global digital economy. Aziz said the goal is to move Malaysian talent to a higher level of workforce and higher skills.
