Indonesia to address six issues ahead of 'global city' push

The Jakarta provincial government has identified six priority issues to support its transformation into a "global city." Acting governor Heru Budi Hartono stated that in addition to tackling traffic jams, the city's development plans will also address national priority issues such as flood prevention, economic recovery, poverty alleviation, stunting, and strengthening democratic values. Hartono encouraged regional officials to aim for increased innovation and breakthroughs in development programmes and activities to accelerate quality development in the economic, social, and environmental sectors. The Jakarta provincial government is preparing to transform the city into a global city as stipulated by Law Number 3 of 2022 concerning the Capital City, as Jakarta will no longer be Indonesia's capital city following the establishment of the new capital city Nusantara in East Kalimantan.
