Indonesia seeks stronger position in AIIB

Indonesia’s Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati discussed strengthening Indonesia’s role within the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) during a meeting with AIIB President Jin Liqun at the 2024 World Bank-IMF Spring Meetings in Washington, D.C. The talks focused on improving Indonesia’s position and supporting the energy transition mechanism (ETM). Indrawati advocated for restructuring AIIB to boost its operational effectiveness, aiming to enhance its support for infrastructure projects in Indonesia and beyond. Additionally, at the IMF Fiscal Forum, she shared insights from Indonesia’s fiscal management during the COVID-19 pandemic, highlighting the country’s conservative budget deficit cap of 3 percent, in contrast to higher limits allowed by other nations.
