HSBC has appointed Christopher Chua as its new global head of mergers and acquisitions, following the departure of former M&A chief Kamal Jabre to JPMorgan last month. Chua, who previously led M&A operations in Asia, will continue to be based in Hong Kong. His promotion comes as the bank sharpens its strategic focus on Asia and the Middle East, regions it sees as core to its advisory and dealmaking strengths. HSBC began a major overhaul of its global investment banking unit last year, scaling back M&A and equity operations in Europe and the Americas. Chua, a former Credit Suisse banker with over two decades of experience, has advised on large cross-border transactions for multinational clients across Asia-Pacific and beyond.
