Hong Kong tokenised fund trading has reached a new milestone after the Securities and Futures Commission approved secondary trading of tokenised public funds on a licensed virtual asset trading platform.

The regulator described the approval as the world's first arrangement of its kind.

Round-the-clock trading began on Monday for two money market funds managed by China Asset Management (Hong Kong).

The products are the ChinaAMC HKD Digital Money Market Fund and ChinaAMC USD Digital Money Market Fund.

The SFC introduced a regulatory framework in April 2026 covering trading operations, fair pricing, liquidity provision and investor disclosures.

The new arrangement allows investors to sell tokenised fund units around the clock and potentially redeploy proceeds into other investments more efficiently.

For family offices and institutional investors, secondary trading could improve flexibility in managing tokenised investment products while supporting the development of Hong Kong's regulated digital asset market.
