The HSBC Premier 2023 Affluent Survey disclosed that the average age at which Hong Kong's wealthy individuals achieve the status of Hong Kong dollar millionaires is 33. These individuals are then expected to amass HKD10m in liquid assets by 62. While 61% rely on salary savings for their initial HKD1m, only a third depend on savings for the HKD10m target. Instead, they turn to trading investment products and fixed assets. Remarkably, 6% of respondents have reached the HKD10m milestone by age 45. Sami Abouzahr of HSBC Hong Kong stressed the significance of early planning and diversification in wealth-building. The survey also noted a decrease in the number of respondents viewing property investment as key to wealth preservation, and highlighted a growing focus on family and succession planning among the affluent.
