Hong Kong Mainland Financial Integration to Deepen Following APEC Meeting

Hong Kong mainland financial integration will remain a priority as the city strengthens economic cooperation with China and expands its role connecting mainland and international capital markets.
Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu met China's Finance Minister Lan Fo'an following the 2026 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Finance Ministers' Meeting in Hong Kong.
Lee thanked Lan for leading the mainland delegation and said Beijing's continued support demonstrated recognition of Hong Kong's position as an international financial centre.
He said the APEC gathering had provided an opportunity to showcase the city's financial advantages and strengthen economic and trade relationships with participating economies.
Hong Kong will continue serving as a “super-connector” between mainland China and global markets, Lee said.
The government also intends to deepen financial market access, support China's financial opening-up and promote regional economic cooperation.
Closer integration could create additional opportunities for institutional investors, family offices and wealth managers seeking cross-border investment access.
