Hong Kong Global Financial Centre Strategy Targets Wealth and Fintech Growth

The Hong Kong global financial centre strategy is focusing on wealth management, financial technology and market infrastructure as the city seeks to strengthen its international competitiveness.
Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po outlined the government's priorities at the fifth Global Financial Leaders' Investment Summit.
The initiatives include a five-year financial development plan, tax incentives for investment funds and family offices, and expanded fintech and gold trading infrastructure.
Chan highlighted Hong Kong's financial market performance, including approximately USD50bn raised through initial public offerings during the first nine months of 2026.
The figure positioned Hong Kong as the world's second-largest IPO market during the period.
Assets under management in the city's wealth management industry increased 20% to USD5.5tr in 2025.
Hong Kong also processed approximately 75% of global offshore yuan payments, reinforcing its role in international renminbi transactions.
The government plans to formally launch a gold clearing and settlement system in the first quarter of 2027.
The measures are intended to strengthen Hong Kong's appeal to global investors, asset managers and family offices.
