Hong Kong Foreign Direct Investment Reaches USD9bn as Business Expansion Grows

Hong Kong foreign direct investment reached approximately USD9bn during the first nine months of 2026 as more than 550 overseas and mainland Chinese companies established or expanded operations in the city.
Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu said the investments were expected to create approximately 11,100 jobs.
The number of companies establishing or expanding operations increased 14% from the corresponding period in 2025.
Speaking at Hong Kong Fintech Week x StartmeupHK 2026, Lee said the figures demonstrated continued international investor confidence despite changing global economic conditions.
He highlighted Hong Kong's access to international capital markets and its role connecting mainland Chinese innovation with global business opportunities.
The government's Northern Metropolis and Greater Bay Area initiatives are intended to strengthen links between research, skilled workers, investment capital and commercial development.
Lee said Hong Kong would continue developing its position as an international financial and technology centre.
The investment figures highlight the city's efforts to attract businesses seeking access to Asian markets and cross-border financial services.
