HKEX urges investors not to fear over market negativity

Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing deputy chief executive Wilfred Yiu encouraged investors not to be deterred by negative remarks about missing opportunities in Hong Kong. He highlighted ongoing commitment from global investors despite concerns raised by US economist Stephen Roach regarding the city’s tight economic ties with a slowing Chinese economy. The Hong Kong government dismissed Roach’s concerns as baseless. Meanwhile, Nobel laureate Michael Spence warned against severing ties with China, noting its advances in solar energy, battery technology, and electric vehicles. He suggested leveraging China’s innovations for energy transitions. Concurrently, the US has imposed new tariffs on Chinese imports, including electric cars and solar panels.
