HKEX Plans Longer Trading Hours and Tokenisation to Expand Multi-Asset Ecosystem

The HKEX multi-asset ecosystem is set for expansion through longer trading hours, international partnerships, yuan-denominated commodity products, and tokenisation, according to Chief Executive Bonnie Chan Yi-ting.
Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing is discussing extending trading sessions across its derivatives and cash markets to improve market accessibility.
The exchange operator also intends to strengthen international partnerships, particularly in the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and Belt and Road markets, while attracting additional primary and secondary listings.
To support yuan internationalisation, HKEX plans to introduce a redesigned yuan-denominated gold futures contract and develop other precious metals products.
The exchange is also exploring a multi-asset tokenisation platform, with commodities and carbon credits identified as potential initial applications.
For institutional investors, wealth managers, and family offices, the initiatives could broaden access to investment products and support greater portfolio diversification through Hong Kong’s capital markets.
