Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing (HKEX) has appointed veteran banker Johnson Chui as managing director, head of global issuer services, effective September 2. Chui, formerly with Nomura, will lead HKEX’s efforts to diversify and expand its issuer base globally, overseeing teams in Hong Kong, mainland China, London, and Singapore. He reports to HKEX co-heads of markets, Wilfred Yiu and Glenda So. Chui, with over 25 years of international capital markets experience, succeeds Christina Bao, who is leaving HKEX after eight years. Chui’s appointment signals HKEX’s strategy to attract listings beyond Hong Kong and mainland China, the latter contributing to half of the exchange’s 2,600 listed companies and 80% of its market turnover.
