Hana Financial chief ranks the highest-paid bank exec in South Korea

Hana Financial Group Chairman Kim Jung-tai was ranked the highest-paid banking executive in South Korea in 2021, taking home an annual salary of KRW2.4bn (USD1.98m). Annual reports filed by financial firms showed that of Kim’s total salary last year, performance pay worth KRW1.5bn accounted for well over half the total amount. Kim’s annual salary has shed some KRW280m on-year from his previous income of KRW2.6bn in 2020. Kim has been at the helm of Hana since 2012 and plans to step down from his role as chairman on March 25. The annual reports also showed that KB Financial Group Chairman Yoon Jong-kyoo ranked No. 2 with KRW1.7bn and Shinhan Financial Group Chairman Cho Yong-byoung No. 3 with KRW800m.
