Nearly half of Chinese foreign trade companies plan to scale back business with the US following tariff hikes, according to a survey by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade. About 75% of respondents said they are expanding into emerging markets to offset weaker US demand. The findings highlight mounting pressure on Chinese exporters, who are diversifying supply chains, boosting domestic sales, and seeking new markets. At the 137th Canton Fair, a record 224,000 buyers attended, signaling growing international interest beyond traditional markets. Companies such as Shandong Lingong Construction Machinery and Ningbo Careline Electric Appliance have shifted strategies to focus on Belt and Road economies and domestic demand. Chinese trade agencies are accelerating international outreach, organising over 180 business delegations this year.
