Greater Bay Area Financial Integration Deepens Under China’s Technology Plan

Greater Bay Area financial integration is set to deepen under new Chinese government guidelines designed to expand financial support for technological innovation and strengthen cross-border cooperation.
China’s central bank and other government agencies have outlined measures covering Beijing, Shanghai and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area.
The plan calls for closer policy coordination, information sharing and mutual recognition of regulatory standards, alongside mechanisms to manage systemic financial risks.
Beijing will focus on original scientific research and major technology infrastructure, while Shanghai will strengthen financial services supporting industrial clusters.
The Greater Bay Area will develop a more open technology-finance system, with closer regulatory cooperation among Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau.
Authorities also plan to connect mainland fintech regulatory tools with the Hong Kong Monetary Authority’s supervisory sandbox.
For financial institutions and investment managers, the measures could support new opportunities in technology financing and cross-border financial services.
