Antares Ventures family office backing has helped the Singapore-based investment firm raise more than USD50m at the second close of its first institutional deeptech fund.

Antares Ventures I is targeting USD100m, with investors including family offices and strategic investors from Southeast Asia, Japan and South Korea.

The fund has invested approximately USD27m across nine companies developing technologies in energy storage, electricity grids, industrial systems, water treatment and transportation.

Around half of its committed capital has been deployed while fundraising continues.

Antares was founded by Michael Gryseels, formerly group chief digital officer at Thailand’s Charoen Pokphand Group.

Before establishing its institutional fund, the firm invested through deal-by-deal syndicates and special purpose vehicles.

The new structure provides family offices and other investors with exposure to a diversified deeptech portfolio, while Antares manages technical due diligence, portfolio construction and commercial development.
