Family Office Compensation Report Reveals 20% Pay Rise for Senior Roles

Family offices are significantly raising compensation to retain investment talent, with base salaries for senior positions increasing by up to 20% since 2020, according to a 2025 report by Botoff Consulting for Morgan Stanley Private Wealth Management.

Based on data from over 400 single-family offices, the report shows median base salaries of USD350,000 for chief investment officers and USD250,000 for investment directors. Total compensation, including bonuses and carried interest, has also risen as family offices compete with private equity and hedge funds. Around 80% of offices now conduct formal performance reviews, and over half offer long-term incentive plans, reflecting increasing professionalisation of the sector.
