Crypto Tax Reporting Rules Bring Automatic Exchange to Hong Kong

Hong Kong crypto tax reporting will expand after the Legislative Council passed the Inland Revenue (Amendment) Bill 2026 to strengthen cross-border tax transparency.
Under the new framework, crypto-asset service providers must start collecting user transaction information in 2027.
The Inland Revenue Department is scheduled to exchange that information automatically with partner jurisdictions from 2028.
The legislation also incorporates updated international standards for digital financial products, with automatic exchange of general financial account information expected to begin in 2029.
Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury Christopher Hui said alignment with international tax transparency standards would strengthen investor confidence and help preserve Hong Kong's role as an international financial centre.
For family offices and wealthy investors with digital asset exposure, the rules increase the importance of complete transaction records and coordinated tax compliance across jurisdictions.
