Over 80 business and academic leaders convened in Shanghai to explore the opportunities and challenges for Chinese companies aiming to go global. Hosted by the Faculty of Business for Science and Technology at the University of Science and Technology of China, the forum featured keynote speaker Hu Jie from Shanghai Jiao Tong University’s Advanced Institute of Finance. Hu emphasised that economic globalisation now requires aligning values and establishing new global governance structures. He recommended targeting Southeast Asia for infrastructure projects and Europe and North America for consumer markets, while stressing the need for stable global supply chains. According to Bain & Co, Chinese overseas investments grew 11% in 2023, with over 3,500 A-share listed companies operating abroad, representing more than 66% of firms.
